Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has urged for investigation into the allegations of budget of N3 trillion.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns and called for a thorough investigation into allegations of budget padding amounting to N3 trillion in the 2024 budget, particularly targeting the Senate. Atiku expressed his dissatisfaction with the Senate's decision to suspend Senator Abdul Ningi, whom he referred to as the whistle-blower in this case.

In a series of tweets posted on Thursday via his social media handle, Atiku highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that the integrity of the 2024 Appropriation Act, which is crucial for the nation's annual planning and development, has been called into question. He cited a fiscal policy analytics and advocacy organization's findings, which revealed a significant lack of transparency within the appropriation act.

Atiku voiced his concerns over the sudden suspension of Senator Ningi, asserting that it has only exacerbated the crisis, leaving the public with more questions than answers. He demanded an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the allegations of budget padding, stressing that any deviation from serving the people's interests must be met with strong opposition.

The former Vice President emphasized that denials from the government are unacceptable, and the suspension of one senator cannot silence accusations of corruption and illegal fiscal spending. He urged for transparency and accountability, stating that allegations of budget padding totaling N3 trillion cannot be dismissed lightly.

Atiku highlighted the adverse effects of a padded budget on the Nigerian populace, including increased hunger, poverty, insecurity, energy crises, forex instability, and the soaring cost of living. He underscored the urgency of addressing these allegations, especially considering the nation's existing economic challenges.

Furthermore, Atiku criticized the current federal government's track record of ignoring issues of transparency and due process in public administration, citing the unresolved $3.3 billion NNPC loan repayment scandal as an example. He called upon the Tinubu administration to address high-profile corruption cases transparently.

Atiku reiterated the role of the National Assembly in legislating for the peace, order, and good governance of the nation, emphasizing the importance of not colluding with corrupt elements. He warned that failure to address these issues and persisting in denial would only confirm the government's complicity in official malpractice.

In conclusion, Atiku's call for a thorough investigation into the allegations of budget padding underscores the need for transparency, accountability, and adherence to due process in governance, particularly in matters concerning public finances and legislative oversight.
