A recent power outage has affected some residents of Abuja and Kogi, disrupting their access to electricity. The blackout, which has impacted areas covered by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, has been attributed to technical issues, specifically a fault on the 33kv feeder k6 from AT9 Karu Transmission Station managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc acknowledged the situation and informed its customers about the ongoing technical fault. The affected areas in Abuja include Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, Old Karu Road, Glory Estate, and surrounding environs. The company assured customers that the TCN maintenance crew is actively working to rectify the issue and restore electricity supply to these areas as soon as possible.
Similarly, the TCN issued a statement regarding planned maintenance on its TR3 45MVA and TR2 60MVA power transformers located in its 132/33kV Okene Transmission Substation. The maintenance, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, March 19th, and conclude on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, will take place daily from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm, lasting for five hours each day.
As a result of the maintenance work, the Abuja DisCo will be unable to receive power from the Okene Transmission Substation, affecting areas such as Okene Town on March 19th and Kabba, Ososo, and Ikare on March 20th, 2024, for five hours each day. However, the TCN assured that bulk power supply to Abuja DisCo will be reinstated promptly once the maintenance activities are completed.
These technical glitches highlight the importance of regular maintenance and infrastructure upgrades to ensure the reliability and stability of the power supply. The cooperation of customers and understanding during such maintenance periods is essential to facilitate the restoration of electricity services in affected areas.
In the face of these challenges, both the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc and the TCN remain committed to addressing the issues promptly and restoring normalcy to the affected regions. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official communication channels provided by the respective utility companies for any further developments regarding the restoration of power supply.
