Military forces apprehend criminal groups causing terror in Ovia South-West, Edo.

Troops from Headquarters 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, driven by a commitment to eradicate criminal activities in Edo State and ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens, conducted a targeted operation in the early hours of Thursday. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided the hideouts of suspected criminal gangs in Gbelebu village, Okomu forest, situated in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Among the apprehended criminals was Joshua Ewaiken, alias General, a notorious figure who had been on the brigade's watchlist. However, General managed to escape before the arrival of the troops and is currently at large. Despite this, some of his associates were successfully arrested during the operation. Notable among the detainees are Shell Joshua and Godspower Joshua, who are siblings of the fugitive General. Additionally, Obuh Ayawe and Japhet Uyaboerizha were also taken into custody.

The criminal activities of Shell Joshua and his accomplices have been extensive, including offenses such as kidnapping, robbery, extortion of locals, rape, unlawful possession of firearms, and the terrorizing of villagers and nearby communities. The arrest of these individuals is a significant step towards dismantling their nefarious operations.

During the operation, the troops recovered valuable items linked to the criminal activities of the arrested individuals. These items include a Toyota Highlander vehicle, assorted illicit drugs, and a mobile phone. The seized items will serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigations.

The arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the troops, where they will undergo thorough investigations to gather more information about their criminal network and activities. The commitment of the troops to maintaining law and order in the Brigade Area of Operations is evident in their continuous efforts to deny criminal elements and economic saboteurs the freedom to operate.

Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo, the Commander of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, expressed his commendation for the troops, acknowledging their unwavering dedication in curbing criminal activities within their jurisdiction. This successful operation reflects the military's determination to create a secure environment for the residents of Edo State and underscores their commitment to upholding peace and security in the region.
