IReV system did not impact the credibility of the presidential election, as affirmed by (INEC).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has firmly asserted that the technical glitch responsible for the failure to upload presidential election results on its viewing portal, known as IReV, did not compromise the credibility of the electoral process. Despite concerns raised by opposition parties and both local and international election observers regarding the IReV failure during the February 25, 2023, presidential election, INEC maintained that the glitch did not impact the integrity of the polls.

In the official report released by INEC on Friday, ahead of the first anniversary of the election, the electoral body acknowledged the existence of the glitch but attributed it to the inherent complexity within the system. INEC clarified that the intricacies were challenging to anticipate and mitigate, emphasizing the unforeseeable nature of the technical issue.

The report outlined that improvements have been made to the IReV system, with additional steps taken to enhance resilience and conduct supplementary checks to ensure optimal operation and performance. INEC has implemented additional quality assurance checks, which are now part of the end-to-end testing of the entire result upload ecosystem before any election takes place.

Although the glitch impacted the upload of scanned images of presidential election result sheets on February 25, 2023, INEC asserted that it did not compromise the election's credibility. The report highlighted that political party agents and security personnel were provided with copies of polling station results immediately after their public announcement.

Explaining the reason behind the failure to upload presidential election results, INEC noted that while results for the House of Representatives and Senate were successfully uploaded, the presidential results encountered an HTTP server error response. The electoral body promptly addressed the server error, ensuring the successful upload of the first presidential election result sheet at 8:55 pm on February 25, 2023.

INEC underscored that the glitch was a consequence of the inherent complexity of the system, emphasizing the difficulty in predicting and mitigating such technical challenges. The report aimed to provide transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding the IReV glitch and reassure the public about the election's overall credibility.
