Peoples Democratic Party Expels Former Obio/Akpor Councilor Achor Nna Following Allegations

In a recent turn of events, the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) has expelled Hon. Achor Nna, the erstwhile leader of the Obio/Akpor legislative council, days after his resignation and declaration of support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The expulsion, as communicated through a letter titled 'RE: EXPULSION OF HON ACHOR NNA,' dated March 9, 2024, was signed by Collins Chukwu, the PDP Ward 9 Chairman in Obio/Akpor LGA. The letter accused Achor Nna of failing to adequately address allegations of misconduct and misappropriation despite receiving multiple invitations to defend himself.

The entire episode unfolded when the Ward 9 PDP executive, led by Chairman Chukwu Collins Wobo, JP, received notice of Achor Nna's suspension from the Elioparanwo PDP chapter on February 10, 2024. In accordance with chapter 10, section 57 (1) of the party constitution, the Ward 9 Chairman set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the allegations against the former legislative council leader.

The disciplinary committee, chaired by Chief Solomon Chime Esq, extended several invitations to Achor Nna, urging him to appear and defend himself against the serious charges of misappropriation of funds and misconduct. However, the invitations were consistently declined by Achor Nna.

In light of his non-compliance, the committee recommended the expulsion of Hon. Achor Nna from the party. The decision to expel him was ultimately taken as the ward leadership could not tolerate what they deemed as unwarranted acts and indiscipline.

The letter clarified that Achor Nna's resignation from his position as the leader of the Obio/Akpor legislative council and as a councillor for Ward 9 did not come as a surprise. The expulsion followed his inability to address the allegations against him, leading to a unanimous decision by the ward to remove him from the party.

The political landscape in Rivers state remains turbulent as both factions continue to vie for control of the political structure. The expulsion of Achor Nna adds another layer to the ongoing political crisis, highlighting the challenges faced by political entities in the state.

As the PDP seeks to maintain discipline within its ranks, the expulsion of Achor Nna serves as a reminder of the party's commitment to upholding its principles and ensuring accountability among its members. The fallout from this episode may have broader implications for the political dynamics in Rivers state, as the struggle for control persists.
