According to a statement released by the Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, on Wednesday, the troops encountered an ambush set up by the terrorists during the operation. However, they promptly responded with a heavy volume of fire, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist, while the others dispersed in disarray.
The aftermath of the operation saw the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and equipment. Among the items seized were two Ak 47 Rifles, 6 Ak 47 Magazines, five rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 331 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 PKT Machine Gun ammunition, and two PKT Machine Gun ammunition links.
Additionally, the troops confiscated three Motorbikes, two power-generating sets, two sets of Desert Camouflage, a pair of Desert boots, Leg and hand chains used for restraining kidnap victims, 9 Baofeng Radios with 9 Chargers, one Talisman vest, an International Passport, two Voter’s cards, and two National Identity cards, among other items. The operation also targeted and destroyed terrorist camps strategically concealed along the river lines.
Despite the success of the operation, the troops remain actively engaged in pursuing fleeing terrorists, aiming to completely eliminate their presence in the forest. This renewed effort reflects the commitment of the military to restore peace and stability in the region.
