In Kaduna, armed forces successfully eliminate leaders of insurgent groups and seize weapons in ongoing operations

Troops from the Nigerian Army's 1 Division, operating in Kaduna State, have continued their operations against insurgents, achieving significant success in neutralizing key figures and recovering weapons. The operations targeted areas in Igabi, Giwa, and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas, responding to recent attacks on civilians.

During a fighting patrol along the Maganda-Dausayi – Mugaba axis, the troops encountered insurgents who used rustled herds of cattle as shields while engaging the soldiers with direct fire. The insurgents, whose exact number couldn't be determined, fired shots from the cover of livestock. In the ensuing one-hour firefight, the troops neutralized two insurgents and recovered weaponry, including an AK 47 rifle, a magazine, and other items like a Techno phone, keys, suspected marijuana, tramadol tablets, and 13,200 Naira in cash.

However, some of the rustled livestock used as shields were caught in the crossfire. The troops continue to pursue fleeing insurgents, demonstrating their commitment to eliminating criminals that threaten the peace of the area.

In a separate operation on February 22, 2024, troops conducted a successful ambush along the Bada – Riyawa axis on the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari Road. The operation resulted in the neutralization of six insurgents and the recovery of two AK 47 rifles, five AK 47 rifle magazines, 300 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and the destruction of 19 motorcycles.

Notably, intelligence sources indicate that the notorious bandit kingpin, Boderi, responsible for orchestrating several high-profile kidnappings, including those at Yauri school, Greenfield University, and the Nigerian Defence Academy, was killed in the ambush. Another kingpin, Bodejo, was also confirmed to have been eliminated in the operation.

The army encourages the public to continue cooperating with security forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in the country, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in maintaining national security.
